Pregnant women – osteopathy during pregnancy in Saint-Martin
Osteopathy can help support the body through the changes of pregnancy and help relieve certain musculoskeletal discomforts.

Pregnancy is a time of profound changes for the expectant mother's body. Over the months, weight gain, the increase in the size of the uterus, and the shift in the center of gravity gradually alter posture.

The pelvis, spine, muscles and joints must continually adapt to these transformations.

Why consult an osteopath during pregnancy?

Osteopathy can support pregnant women to improve their comfort and promote good mobility of the pelvis and the entire body.

Gentle manual techniques adapted to pregnancy can be used, in particular, in the presence of certain functional discomforts such as:

• lower back pain

• tension in the pelvis

• Sacroiliac joint pain

• back pain

• muscle tension

• certain pains related to postural changes during pregnancy.

Each consultation is tailored to the stage of pregnancy, symptoms, and health of the expectant mother.

When to consult an osteopath during pregnancy?

In my practice, I generally suggest three ideal times to carry out an osteopathic assessment:

Around the 3rd month , in order to support the body's initial adaptations to pregnancy.

Around the 6th month , when postural changes become more significant and the stresses exerted on the pelvis and spine increase.

Approximately one month before delivery , in particular to check the mobility of the pelvis and to work on any musculoskeletal tensions that may be present.

These periods are given as a guideline; there is no mandatory schedule. A consultation can also be considered if discomfort or pain arises during pregnancy.

Why consult an osteopath before giving birth?

As the due date approaches, an osteopathic consultation can help to work on pelvic mobility and on certain tensions that have appeared during the last months of pregnancy.

The goal is to best support the mechanical and functional adaptations of the expectant mother's body.

Osteopathy, however, cannot guarantee an uncomplicated delivery or prevent a cesarean section. The course of labor depends on numerous medical factors concerning the mother and baby and is the responsibility of the obstetric team.

Osteopathy as a complement to medical care during pregnancy

Osteopathy never replaces pregnancy monitoring by a doctor, midwife, or gynecologist-obstetrician.

It is used as a complementary approach specifically designed to improve the comfort of pregnant women and to address certain musculoskeletal pains or discomforts.
